Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our dental clinic. This role involves providing chair-side assistance during all operative and dental treatment procedures. Responsibilities also include performing office and clerical tasks related to patient records and appointments, as well as preparing dental instruments and materials required for patient care. Additionally, this individual will assist with and demonstrate dental services, including four-handed dentistry, taking and processing impressions and x-rays, conducting radiographic procedures, placing rubber dams, managing patients, and performing other essential dental techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides support and relief to other dental team members of clinical work and minor administrative and business details as directed by the dentist or hygienist.
- Documents charts per request of dentist or hygienist.
- Performs administrative support related to referrals and charting.
- Performs duties to allow more efficiency to dentists such as: taking X-rays, impressions, four-handed dentistry, etc.
- Maintaining clinic flow by sterilizing, room turnaround, stocking, and cleaning
- Assists other dental team members as time permits
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities:
- This person should possess good interpersonal skills and have experience in working with a diverse group of staff, students, volunteers, and patients in a collaborative environment.
- Leadership ability and organization skills to manage multiple tasks within time constraints and with the appropriate degree of urgency.
- Attention to detail and anticipatory judgment regarding patient safety, comfort, and follow-up.
- Ability to set up, troubleshoot, maintain, and tear down portable/mobile dental equipment.
- Ability to apply fluoride varnish, successfully secure diagnostic radiographs and provide post-operative or oral hygiene instructions in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
- Ability to maintain dental equipment and supply inventories within budget and according to utilization and scope of services.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the dental field.
- Relies on experience and judgment to accomplish goals.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, modern office practices and procedures.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, communicate verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
- Confidentiality is of utmost importance to this position.
Education and Experiences:
- Graduated from an accredited Dental Assisting School with Radiology Certification
- Experience serving vulnerable populations.
- Experienced in operating and maintaining dental equipment, notably portable dental units, mobile dental equipment, and portable radiographic equipment.
- Experienced in interprofessional communication and the provision of interdisciplinary whole-person health care.
- Experience with various electronic healthcare record (EHR) systems, medical and dental record-keeping practices.
- Experienced in applying HIPAA, FERPA, and Infection Control standards in both clinical and community-based settings.
- Bilingual preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
