JOB TITLE: Executive Director
REPORTS TO: Board of Directors
SALARY RANGE: $50,000-$55,000
HOURS: Full-time position with some evenings and weekends.
Objective: Efficiently implement the mission, goals, and objectives of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) as established by the staff and approved by the Board of Directors. Develop strategic plans and directions for BBBS, set short and long-term financial and organization objectives, and collaborate closely with the board to provide appropriate mentorship and oversight of BBBS operations.
Qualifications: The Executive Director must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and be a full-time employee of the agency.
Core Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
- Ensure quality in local programs, finance, administration, fundraising, communications, and systems. Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
- Actively engage and energize BBBS volunteers, board members, partner organizations, and funders.
- Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors. Seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both local operations and the national BBBS organization and Iowa Mentor.
- Implement effective systems to measure progress and regularly evaluate program components to measure successes that can be communicated to the board, funders, and other partners.
Supervisory Requirements:
- Direct supervision of one or more employees.
- Provide leadership and mentorship and maintain an engaged and productive workforce.
- Establish a strong environment for developing future leaders through career development and performance management.
- Hire, lead, mentor, develop, and retain BBBS’s high-performance team.
Fundraising & Communications:
- Search for and write grant applications and complete grant reports as required. Ensure grant compliance.
- Expand local revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion.
- Improve all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations—with the goal of strengthening the brand.
- Apply external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
Planning & New Business:
- Build new partnerships and establish relationships with funders, political leaders, and community leaders.
- Serve as an external presence at local, state, and national levels to communicate program results, emphasizing the successes of the local program.
