What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at Heart Of Texas Healthcare System?
- Monitors billing WQ’s assigned by making any corrections for the claim to be submitted for payment. Prioritizes follow-ups and process denials while maintaining a high quality of work.
- Participate in the billing office day-to-day activities for patient calls and visits pertaining to any self-pay balances. This includes payment processing, claims analysis, and reconciliation.
- Responsible for all billing functions of EMS Transports, to include preparing the claim, dropping the claim, posting any payments, follow-up on denials and non-paid status.
- Responsible for the miscellaneous accounts receivable reconciliation and preparation of deposits. This includes services for Occupational Medicine, Assisted Living, and other miscellaneous payments received.
- May perform accounts payable tasks as the back up to the accounts payable staff.
- Always maintains patient and organization confidentiality.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned by the CFO and/or CEO.

A. Education: High School Diploma required
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to operate business office equipment including personal computers and possess advanced Excel skills. Effective oral and written communication abilities. Experience in the electronic medical record system of Epic is a requirement.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required.
D. Experience: Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in healthcare medical billing, claims processing, follow-up and appeals required. Excellent communication skills – written and oral. Demonstrated ability to represent the organization’s values and to carry out these job responsibilities effectively and professionally.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some bending, stooping, and reaching is required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 40 pounds.
F. Environmental/Working Conditions: Normal office environment 8-hour shift Monday through Friday
