JOB SUMMARY
The School Based Qualified Mental Health Specialist (SBQMHS) will evaluate and monitor the social and emotional learning and mental health needs of targeted students and families, and to coordinate and provide direct and indirect services to optimize academic performance. The SBQMHS will apply interventions that focus on the individual student’s ability to succeed in school, their community and home; to identify and access needed services; and to assist the individual student with making improvements in school, work, and family functioning.
This position requires the SBQMHS to be knowledgeable of federal and state laws, state board of education rules, and school board policies applicable to assigned responsibilities. This role also required knowledge of child development, mental health issues, along with proficiency in delivering evidence-based mental health interventions both in a school setting and outside of school settings as needed particularly during academic break periods such as summer, spring, and holidays (i.e., Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.).
JOB DUTIES
- Provide case management, mental health services and life skills coaching as appropriate to students and their family members both in school and outside of school as needed
- Work as a member of a designated school-based team to lead implementation and program fidelity in the areas of creating, supporting, and expanding high-quality mental health services and supports for students and their families
- Integrate within the school-wide culture, education system, and personnel that provide support, guidance, training, and referral processes for mental health/behavioral health services
- Attend key school meetings to provide consultation and support to school staff, administration, students and parents in their interventions
- Enhance access to mental health services by facilitating the referral process to meet goals as outlined in the individual service plan
- Effectively engage clients, families, and natural supports to participate in treatment through treatment planning and progress reviews
- Provide coordination and assist in crisis management and stabilization as needed
- Link clients to community resources and/or other school and family support
- Complete service documentation in accordance with agency, funder, and state standards
- Attend supervision, staff meetings, and training as required
- Productivity of thirty hours per week
