Duties
As a Direct Support Professional, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting individuals with daily living activities such as cooking, personal hygiene, and medication administration.
- Providing companionship and emotional support to enhance social interactions.
- Supporting individuals in community integration by facilitating participation in social, recreational, and educational activities.
- Assisting with mobility and physical tasks, including lifting when necessary.
- Maintaining a safe and clean environment in group homes or community settings.
- Documenting care provided and reporting any changes in the individual's condition to appropriate staff members.
- Collaborating with family members and other caregivers to ensure comprehensive care plans are followed.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Experience in caregiving or working with people with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with home community care practices is a plus.
- Ability to administer medication safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of patient care techniques, including hospice and memory care approaches.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with individuals, families, and team members.
- Physical capability to lift individuals as needed and perform tasks that require standing for extended periods.
- A compassionate attitude towards supporting individuals with diverse needs.
