WHO WE ARE

Heartwood Community School is a community-focused, tuition-free charter school serving Jasper, Beaufort, and Hampton Counties in South Carolina. We believe in educating the whole child—nurturing each student academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Honoring every child’s unique journey, we bridge home and school to foster a compassionate, empowering environment where students feel seen and valued.

Our mission goes beyond academics; we guide students to become resilient problem-solvers, compassionate community builders, globally minded citizens, emotionally intelligent leaders, and lifelong learners. Embracing mistakes as part of growth, we equip students to thrive in school and life—ready to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

THE ROLE

At Heartwood Community School, we believe that a strong, engaged community is the foundation of a thriving school. As the Family & Community Engagement Manager, you will be responsible for driving student enrollment, building lasting relationships with families, strengthening community partnerships, and elevating the school’s presence through strategic outreach and engagement efforts. This role blends admissions, family engagement, event planning, marketing, and public relations to ensure that Heartwood is a trusted and well-connected institution within the community. This position is ideal for a mission-driven, entrepreneurial individual who thrives in a relationship-focused and dynamic environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach & Partnerships

  • Represent Heartwood Community School at community events, neighborhood meetings, and local gatherings to promote the school and recruit students.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local organizations, such as daycare centers, housing authorities, family resource centers, and faith-based organizations, to expand awareness and referrals.
  • Develop and execute outreach strategies to engage diverse families and underrepresented communities, ensuring all families feel welcome and informed about the school.
  • Act as the school’s external ambassador, fostering strong ties between Heartwood and the greater community.

Student Enrollment & Recruitment

  • Create and implement enrollment strategies that generate interest and increase applications, ensuring the school reaches and maintains full capacity and a waitlist.
  • Develop a lead nurturing process through phone calls, emails, text messages, and in-person engagement to encourage families to apply and complete the enrollment process.
  • Guide families through the admissions process, resolving barriers to enrollment and ensuring a smooth, supportive experience.
  • Analyze enrollment trends to refine recruitment tactics and drive data-informed decision-making.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Plan and execute family-centered events, such as Open Houses, Orientation Nights, Parent Workshops, and Community Gatherings, to strengthen school-family connections.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families, ensuring they feel informed, valued, and included in the school community.
  • Develop initiatives that support family involvement in student learning, including volunteer opportunities and parent advisory groups.

Marketing, Communications & Public Relations

  • Lead the school’s social media strategy, creating engaging content that highlights Heartwood’s mission, student success stories, and upcoming events.
  • Manage the school’s digital presence, including the website, email campaigns, and outreach materials, to ensure consistent and compelling messaging.
  • Develop external communication strategies to elevate Heartwood’s reputation and increase brand awareness in the community.
  • Craft and distribute press releases, newsletters, and community updates to keep families and stakeholders informed.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and leverage data to inform enrollment and engagement strategies.
