An onsite technician is responsible for providing technical support to clients at their location, primarily by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware and software issues with computer systems, peripherals, and network infrastructure, often including installation, configuration, and maintenance of equipment, while physically present at the client's site; essentially acting as a first-line point of contact for technical issues that require hands-on intervention. Key responsibilities of an onsite technician may include:

  • Troubleshooting and repair: Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software problems on desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Installation and configuration: Setting up new computer systems, software applications, and network connections at client locations.
  • System maintenance: Performing routine checks and updates to ensure optimal system performance.
  • End-user support: Answering technical questions, providing training on basic software usage, and assisting with user-related issues.
  • Inventory management: Keeping track of hardware and software assets at client sites.
  • Escalation: Identifying issues that require further support from higher-level technicians and escalating accordingly.
  • Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of repairs, configurations, and client interactions.
  • Compliance with safety protocols: Adhering to safety procedures while working on client premises.

Skills and qualifications for an onsite technician:

  • Strong understanding of computer hardware and software systems (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Proficiency in network troubleshooting and basic networking concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites

Depending on the industry and company, an onsite technician may also be called a field service technician, IT support technician, or help desk technician (onsite) depending on their specific role and responsibilities

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $200.00 per month

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • On call
  • Weekends as needed
