What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bio-Medical Repair Technician position at Helen Hayes Hospital?
Responsible for measuring
instruments when verifying clinical equipment safety and performance; ensures
test equipment has been calibrated within
the required interval. Maintains the clinical
engineering database. Sends notification of receipt and return of tracked medical devices to manufacturers as required by Safe Medical Devices
Act. Maintains hospital bed inventory,
repairs and relocating beds when required. Records all repairs in the clinical engineering work order system management
database and will work closely with the Engineering office. Responsible to answer all requests installations and maintenance adaptive medical
equipment. Responds to calls for
equipment repair in a timely fashion daily. Records
all repairs in the clinical engineering management database. Responsible to order necessary parts and equipment needed, must maintain an inventory on
hand for immediate use. Create and
maintain official documents and reports needed to assist in the mandatory hospital
committee meetings and required DOH and Joint Commission inspections. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Two years of experience designing and manufacturing
adaptive equipment; or two years of skilled experience in carpentry or a
related trade, one year of which must have been designing and manufacturing
adaptive equipment for individuals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
Experience and formal
training in Bio medical equipment and repairs. Basic knowledge of electronics
and mechanical systems as well as diagnose issues with medical equipment. Skill set to interpret technical manuals and
perform tasks to repair medical equipment. Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with medical
equipment and preservation. Experience
working with electronics and medical equipment in a hospital setting. Demonstrate proficiency with power tools and
hand tools. Knowledge of material properties.
Technical experience for basic electronics troubleshooting and repair. Basic computer programming skills. Exposure to or experience with assistive
technology or health-related field. Comprehensive knowledge of electrical
connections. Familiar with connectors,
wire harnessing, wire management, and both battery safety and maintenance. Efficient and organized in managing and
operating a mechanical shop. Good
mechanical abilities and fabrication skills. Highly organized in methods of data acquisition and entry, part and
supply sorting, number, and coding, and differentiating medical equipment. Capability to work independently and the
ability to order necessary parts and materials needed by clinical departments. Demonstrates the knowledge to identify
problems that may occur within the medical service departments. Demonstrates proper selection of measuring
instruments when verifying clinical equipment safety and performance. Ensures test equipment has been calibrated
within the required interval. Ability to work closely with outside contracted
vendors. Capability to perform
in-services to staff on operating errors and repairs. Work well with clinical
staff and possess strong communicative skills. Experience in Joint Commission or DOH inspections.
