What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Worker position at Helen Keller Services?
Since 1893, Helen Keller Services (HKS) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, visually impaired or have combined hearing and vision loss. HKS serves the New York City/Long Island area from its new headquarters in dynamic downtown Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults of Sands Point, New York, which has a network of regional offices that extends HKS’ reach across the United States. We currently have an exciting full-time career opportunity available to join the HKS team as a Full-Time Bilingual Social Worker.
The Social Worker is responsible for providing bilingual casework services to any HKSB clients within the five (5) boroughs that would benefit from social work services. The social worker maintains positive communication with clients, all collateral contacts, i.e. their family members, outside social service agencies, NYSCB staff and HKSB employees.
WORK LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY - Travel to Hempstead and Islandia when necessary
JOB TYPE: Full Time
PAY: $70,000 - $75,000 annually
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide all necessary Casework services (Assessment, Level 1 and Level 2 counseling) as deemed appropriate for clients.
- Complete all necessary Casework paperwork in a timely fashion, computer work, telephone calls, outside paperwork and referrals, CIS system work, etc., as required by all VR clients.
- Provide outreach services as necessary to advocate for clients.
- Schedule and maintain client appointments.
- Coordinate client services with NYSCB staff, outside social service agencies and other HKSB instructors.
- Assist in achieving department contract goals.
- Facilitate social work support groups.
- Excellent attention to detail regarding progress notes and report submission.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Clinical Supervision is provided.
Responsible for other duties as may be assigned or requested by the Clinical Program Director of Social Work Services.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Social Work required. Experience in working with adults and children with disabilities preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Required: Social Work Licensure in the State of New York – LMSW or LCSW
