What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Helicopter Flight Services?
We are a private aviation helicopter company seeking an Assistant Controller. This exciting new position will be based at our company’s new headquarters in Hoboken, NJ. This role requires demonstrated experience in accounting software, accounts payable/accounts receivable, collections and payments, experience with monthly closing process, financial reporting including Monthly and YTD analysis, and cashflow reporting. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the development of new internal reporting, and support of annual financial audits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Accounting Support Functions:
- Oversee general ledger activity, while ensuring accurate transactions and reconciliations.
- Assist management with the creation of budgets, providing forecasts and cashflow reporting, and monthly financials variance analysis.
- Assisting with the development and evaluation of budgets and preparing budget reports.
- Assist with the month-end close process, including depreciation schedules and adjustments.
- Assist financial managers and CEO on annual budget planning, and recurring monthly and weekly forecasting processes
- Provide support to Accounting Manager for annual external audits, providing necessary files and back-up documentation during this process, explanations of systems, numbers and reporting.
Other Financial Duties:
- Prepare and analyze cost and expense trends, identifying areas for improvement and implementing new solutions and related cost reduction options.
- Provide analysis and recommendations on vendor spend, rationalization and consolidation
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable management; timely collection to prevent aged receivables
- Support the implementation of control systems within the organization.
- Work closely with our payroll department to implement new expense reimbursement system
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in accounting and support functions as a controller, experience in hospitality is a plus.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Working experience with industry recognized accounting platforms (e.g. QuickBooks Enterprise).
- Proven experience in financial reporting and analysis.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS PowerPoint.
- Ideal candidate will also be well-organized and have excellent management and communication skills.
- Experience in preparing for external audits.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an accountant, assistant controller, or similar role.
- CPA license a plus, but not required.
- Strong knowledge of Excel is required; proficiency in PowerPoint presentations is a plus.
