The manufacturing engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the growth of the production process of our solar panels. Their primary responsibility is advanced process support, support on new product development and support the management of small projects as it relates to our operations, production and maintenance processes. This position will optimize systems to ensure safe operation, good quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Manufacturing engineers work closely with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, production operators, maintenance, safety, and quality, to create and improve production methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in continuous improvement and cost reductions by providing support for the management team using manufacturing engineering technical expertise and working collaboratively on manufacturing processes as a team lead or team member.
- Analyze operational data like work force utilization, facility layout, workflow and apply lean manufacturing principles to optimize equipment, labor, and workspace effectiveness, actively participating and leading continuous improvement teams.
- Recommend methods for worker effectiveness, safety, and quality while minimizing costs through job duty restructuring, workflow optimization according to lean principles, and equipment management.
- Be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of lean tools (e.g., root cause analysis, PDCA, kaizen, 5S, etc.).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality assurance, supply chain, and maintenance, to streamline production, provide technical support, and lead continuous improvement/cost reduction events, including cross-functional kaizen events.
- Collaborate with other teams to create work instructions, training checklists, and training matrices, ensuring the integration of safety and ergonomics best practices into the manufacturing process.
- Perform time studies to identify potential process improvement, apply the theory of constraints to identify bottlenecks, and optimize work content for improved line flow.
- Facilitate manufacturability in new product development by collaborating with cross-functional design teams, defining production processes, estimating costs, and offering manufacturing support to NPI teams (e.g., PFMEA, process flow changes, tool/fixture design).
- Provide equipment design specifications, solicit quotes, and recommend equipment purchases for process enhancement.
- Collaborate on cross-functional product design teams to enhance manufacturability for new and existing products, define production process procedures, and furnish cost information to marketing and engineering. Additionally, provide manufacturing support to NPI teams, including process flow adjustments and tool/fixture design.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four-year engineering /technical degree and minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in working with ERP software is considered an asset
- Experience working in a project environment considered an asset
- Knowledgeable in the use of lean tools (e.g., root cause analysis, PDCA, kaizen, 5S, etc.)
- Experience with PLCs
- Experience with Install New Production Line (preferably Solar Line) is an asset
- Experience with automation components such as robots, drives, sensors, and HMIs
- Experience with CAD software
- Ability to identify existing opportunities, foresee upcoming challenges and effectively react
- Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects
- Experience with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Self-motivated and ability to work well within a team with strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be willing to participate in a background check and pre-hire drug testing
- This position is identified as a Safety Sensitive Position
- This position will be required to train at our Mountain Iron, MN facility prior to our Rogers location opening. More detail will be provided to the successful candidate.
Salary Range: $65,000 to $90,000 Annually
