Would you like to work at a Summer Shore Vacation program as the Program Director for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities this summer? The summer schedule runs each week from Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon beginning June 8th thru August 29th 2025. The Director will begin in Late April/Early May for the summer season with training, house prep and staff prep. We provide the transportation from our office in Pennsylvania to the Shore House in Cape May, NJ each week.
Staff training is scheduled for June 3rd-6th 2025. There will be a mid-summer break for some personal downtime during the week of July 13th.
Helping Hands, Inc Summer Program is looking for patient, understanding, caring, reliable, and creative employees to join our team and learn the ropes of our Shore Vacation Program in Cape May, NJ. Our program provides a shore vacation experience for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. All participants are over the age of 18 and require varying levels of care or support. Our program is offered in weekly sessions and runs from Sundays to Fridays, with all participants and staff meeting in Pennsylvania and utilizing agency vehicles to travel to NJ.
This experience offers vacation activities such as shopping on each of the various boardwalks along the coast, going to the beach, going out to eat, casinos, boat rides, fishing, outings to the zoo, wildlife sanctuary, and various community events, etc.
IDD Program Director JOB DUTIES:
- Work as a direct support professional with adults participants with IDD, safely in a variety of activities and settings.
- Plan all outings and activities, create a daily schedule, supervise and guide staff
- Show enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to work as a team with other staff
- Supervise participants closely during pool/beach activities; this includes swimming with them, keeping them safe and engaged
- Responsible for the supervision, safety and well-being of each participant in his/her group during all times of the day, both while on our property and out in the community
- Maintain a safe and clean physical environment (indoors and outdoors)
- Actively engage and interact with the participants during mealtimes
- Manage a team of approximately 6 program staff and 10-12 participants each week
- Possess organizational and planning skills regarding scheduling activities, menus, meal planning and food preparation, shopping, ordering supplies, maintaining the shore house property, ensuring safety at all times, managing participant spending money, and budgeting program funds.
- Must possess the ability to become certified in Medication Administration in order to dispense medication as prescribed to our participants as required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 25 years of age required
- High school diploma or GED required, Associate or Bachelor Degree Preferred
- Prior experience working as an IDD direct support professional or caregiver preferred
- Prior experience in a recreational, camp, or shore vacation program required.
- Current certifications in CPR/First Aid/AED preferred but not mandatory. Certification must be obtained after hiring.
- Medication Administration preferred but not immediately required. Certification must be obtained after hiring.
- The ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Genuine passion for and desire to work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a recreational manner.
