SUMMARY
The Data Quality Specialist position is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and correcting data inaccuracies to improve data integrity and support organizational reporting and analytics. This role will focus on data cleansing efforts across multiple data systems, trackers, and reports, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business processes and data standards. The Data Quality Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, document data cleansing processes, and contribute to ongoing data quality initiatives by providing feedback for process improvement.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and process-driven, with the ability to detect inconsistencies and apply corrective actions across various data sources. They must be adept at working independently, managing large datasets, and communicating data issues effectively to technical and non-technical audiences. This position requires excellent time management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Review, assess, and cleanse data across multiple systems, trackers, and reports to identify and correct data errors and inconsistencies.
- Apply established business rules and data standards to ensure data quality across various data sources.
- Collaborate with program areas, IT, Data Analytics, and other relevant teams to understand data flows, business processes, and standards to improve data quality across systems.
- Access and retrieve data from multiple systems and data sources as necessary to support data correction activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of data correction activities, identifying recurring issues, and suggesting improvements to existing processes.
- Conduct regular data validation checks to ensure data integrity and compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Assist in the monitoring of data quality metrics and support ongoing auditing efforts across different data systems.
- Work with internal teams to identify and implement data quality improvements, providing recommendations based on observed patterns.
- Support data quality assurance efforts during system upgrades, integrations, and migrations.
- Communicate data quality issues, actions taken, and corrective processes clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
- Follow company privacy and security protocols, especially when handling personally identifiable or sensitive data.
- Assist in developing and maintaining data cleansing guidelines and quality control measures for continuous data improvement.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Three or more years of highly complex administrative/data related experience in the health, housing, social services, or related sector.
Education/Experience
Preference will be given to those with:
(A) Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field - AND - One (1) year working in in data cleansing, data quality assurance, or a related field.; - OR - (B) One (1) year experience in data manipulation and analysis using tools such as SQL, Excel, or other data management tools; familiarity with data validation techniques and the application of business rules to correct data errors, use of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and cloud-based data platforms, and prior experience in a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, finance).
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
- Successful clearing through the Live Scan and the Health Clearance process with the County of Los Angeles.

- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of data privacy and security standards, with experience handling sensitive data in compliance with relevant regulations.
