The Part-Time Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness will be responsible for supporting the overall management and daily operations of the Fitness and Wellness Department at the Hempfield Recreation Center. This individual will ensure smooth coordination of fitness floor schedules, assist in the development and marketing of fitness programs, and serve as a backup to the Fitness Director. The Assistant Director will also oversee member engagement through incentive programs and play a key role in maintaining a positive and effective fitness environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fitness Floor Scheduling & Operations
- Manage and update the fitness floor schedule, ensuring coverage for all fitness areas and programs.
- Coordinate staff shifts, ensuring proper staffing levels for fitness floor operations.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained on the fitness floor at all times.
- Hire and train fitness floor staff to provide a high level of customer service.
- Member Orientations
- Call and schedule fitness orientations for new members, ensuring a smooth introduction to the facility and equipment.
- Provide a high level of customer service to new and prospective members, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Program Development Assistance
- Collaborate with the Fitness Director to develop and implement new fitness and wellness programs.
- Assist in organizing and executing special fitness events, workshops, and health-related initiatives.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for program improvements based on member feedback and industry trends.
- Marketing and Promotion Support
- Work closely with the Marketing Director to promote small group training and fitness programs to current and prospective members.
- Ensure the visibility and promotion of fitness programs both within the center and through external marketing channels.
- Member Incentive Programs
- Work with the Fitness Director to design and implement member incentive programs to encourage engagement and retention, such as challenges, rewards, and loyalty programs.
- Track member progress and participation in incentive programs, providing ongoing communication and encouragement.
- Backup Support to the Fitness Director
- Serve as the point of contact in the absence of the Fitness Director, ensuring continuity of daily operations.
- Provide leadership and guidance to fitness staff when the Fitness Director is unavailable.
- Address member concerns and resolve issues as needed in the Fitness Director’s absence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health & Wellness, or a related field (preferred).
- Personal Training certification required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in fitness facility management, personal training, or a similar role.
- CPR/AED Certification required (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in program development and marketing is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
