Position Summary
Summer Day Camp Counselors helps provide a safe, fun, high energy, and affordable day camp environment for Hempfield Township and surrounding area residents. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attend Staff Training
- Ability to work 10 weeks of Summer Day Camp
- Follow the policies and procedures set forth in your staff manual relating to safety and human relations
- Execute program plans set in place by leadership team
- Attend to campers' physical, personal, development, and emotional needs
- Support person for activities such as field games, projects, field trips, etc.
- Be a positive role model and help campers develop and grow, serve as mentor for Counselors in Training
- Lead one activity each week
- Assess hazards to ensure child safety
Education & Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age and have interest in working with children.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The individual must possess the following skills and abilities or be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential function of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Must attend Camp Staff training and available 10 weeks in summer.
- Must demonstrate outstanding customer service skills that align with Hempfield CAREs standards.
- Must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, and devise solutions to immediate problem.
- Must possess a general understanding of camp programs and how they are conducted.
- Skills in operating a computer with general understanding of Microsoft and Windows OS.
- Understanding English language.
- Must obtain Act 34 Clearances within prior to start of Camp Staff Training.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification prior to start of Camp Staff Training (Township provided)

Work is performed 10% in the building and 90% outside the building. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office and park equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or listen; stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, equipment or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee must have a driver’s license and a safe driving record. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is Summer Day Camp environment. The scheduled work begins at 8:00AM – 5:00PM on weekdays from June - August.

Compensation:
Compensation for this position is $13.25-$14.25 per hour with consideration for annual increases based upon work performance.
