Hendrick Motorsports is currently seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic. This position is responsible for installation or repair of mechanical systems and components of the race car, such as brakes, suspension, driveline, steering, cooling, and exhaust system.  The ideal candidate will have the experience and the ability to work on both Cup and Xfinity cars.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Having the knowledge and ability to work on both Xfinity and Cup
  • Assemble, disassemble, install, repair, and/or replace steering and suspension components.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and take samples from components for review and quality control.  
  • Install, repair, overhaul, adjust, and disassemble front and rear suspension system.  
  • Install, repair, and later disassemble cooling ducts, cooling systems, interior wiring, and driver comfort/safety items.
  • Must be able to multitask between multiple ongoing car builds at a time

  • Repairing - repairing items using needed tools and equipment. 
  • Troubleshooting - determining the causes of operating errors and deciding the action to take. 
  • Safety Awareness - ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety. 


Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.


Experience: Must possess a minimum of 3 years electrical experience.


Education/Experience: Requires the ability to teach others and lead by example. Must have thorough understanding of mechanical components and car systems. Should own and be able to utilize personal tools and equipment. Knowledge of measuring tools and calipers is required. Must have the ability to follow specific and detailed procedures. Requires a strong ability to problem solve. Basic fabrication skills are necessary. Basic machining skills are preferred. 


Certificates and Licenses: Magnafluxing certification preferred. Romer proficiency preferred.


Computer Skills: Basic computer skills are required.


Communication Skills: Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to

communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.


Attendance Expectations: The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays. Requires the ability to work a flexible work schedule and the ability to travel if needed.


Physical Demands: Required to frequently reach outward, reach above shoulder level, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, bend, lift/carry up to 100 pounds, and push/pull up to 40 pounds. Required to constantly stand, walk, manually manipulate, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 25 pounds.  Required to occasionally sit and push/pull over 100 pounds.


Environment Demands: Primarily works indoors in the shop environment.  May be exposed to fumes and loud noises.


Verbal and Writing Ability: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.


Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
