What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automation Controls Specialist position at Hendrickson?
Position Purpose:
Automation Controls Specialist is responsible for designing and developing controls solutions to support existing automated cells and new automated cell initiatives. These will include but are not limited to:
- Robotic/Gantry material handling cells
- Electrical panel design
- PLC programming
- Plant layouts / material flow
- Equipment manuals
Essential Functions:
- This individual must champion the controls design process (concept, design, drawing creation, build, document), installation, MPAP, and long-term technical support of the manufacturing processes. This will include meeting quality, capability, cost and time targets.
- Select and properly evaluate electronic and pneumatic components, sensors, and suppliers.
- This individual must also participate in product and process design reviews. The position is responsible for helping to improve the quality of the product while lowering the cost to produce it.
- Generate detailed bill of materials for each design.
- This individual must be able to develop and implement capital or expense projects. This will include:
o Researching new and established manufacturing technologies
o Planning the capital and time needed to implement the technology
- P rogram PLCs, robots, and other industrial components as required for each job to fulfill all functional requirements outlined by customer and designers. Proficiency in programming programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using languages like Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram to control industrial processes.
- This individual must provide technical assistance to the manufacturing and maintenance functions to solve chronic or complex problems.
- Support projects during commissioning and final run-off.
