What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrections Unit Supervisor position at Hennepin County?

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both onsite at the Brookdale facility at 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy Suite #300, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430, and remote as job duties require. Typical work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility in hours and infrequent evening or weekend hours. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.
About the position type:
In this position, you will:
- Supervise nine parole officers with caseloads that are 40 clients to one agent.
- Support EBP efforts and effectively communicate changes to the unit.
- Approve violations reports and other court documents.
- Serve as a resource across the department and promote excellent relationships with stakeholders, the court, and other criminal justice partners.
- Facilitate staff meetings, case consultations, performance management, and evaluations.
- Serve on various committees.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Master's degree or higher in criminal justice, behavioral/social science, social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, law enforcement, education, business, correctional or public administration or an equivalent field and two years or more of full-time equivalent work experience as a probation/parole officer, correctional officer/juvenile correctional officer, sentencing to service crew leader, social worker, or as a supervisor in a correctional or residential treatment setting.
- Bachelor's degree in one of the above fields and three years or more of the experience listed above.
- Bachelor's degree in a non-related field and four years or more of the experience listed above.
- Seven years or more of the experience listed above.
- Note: Completion of an Evidence-Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate from an approved school may be substituted for one year of relevant coursework or one year of relevant experience.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- Applying principles of Evidence-Based Practices and its focused methods to support and guide staff.
- Working in the criminal justice system, especially in the areas of domestic violence, chemical dependency, and mental health.
- Working with adults in a probation or social service setting, and with Adult Services policies and procedures.
- Social work and/or mental health licensure.
- A trauma-informed lens.
- Ability to:
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain strong organizational and detail-oriented practices, and adapt comfortably to evolving technology.
- Identify staff strengths and leverage them effectively in their roles; assign staff to roles that align with their strengths.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers while working effectively with an increasingly diverse client population.
