NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is seeking a Medical Assistant devoted to the delivery of primary care in a clinic setting with emphasis on prevention and health maintenance. As a member of the care team, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient and family-centered care principles through performing a variety of high-level functions such as gathering and documenting information to support the patient visit within a multidisciplinary care team.
The Medical Assistant will assist the nurses and clinical staff in performing their duties by carrying on the necessary functions required in accordance with established policies and procedures. All clinic Medical Assistants are cross trained with other support staff and may work at our other satellite sites to provide coverage when needed.

Location and hours:
This position is located on-site at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, 2220 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411 and will provide coverage as needed at the following satellite sites: Heritage Park Clinic, 1015 4th Avenue North Suite 201, Minneapolis, MN 55405 and West Broadway Clinic, 800 West Broadway, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Work hours and specific clinic location for this position will vary. Clinic hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all benefit-earning is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
- Perform assigned competent clinical tasks under the direction of a registered nurse and by provider’s orders: administer medications, injections, immunizations and oxygen; perform nebulization, urethral catheterization, apply minor dressings/splints, phlebotomy. Perform screens and tests including: hearing, vision, developmental, spirometry, tympanometry, pulse oximetry and laboratory waive testing.
- Set up for and provide direct assistance to health care providers with medical examinations and procedures including colposcopy and minor procedures. Obtain and document patient information and medical history including: current medications, allergies, chief complaint, and immunization history within the EMR.
- Perform basic patient care activities including: rooming patients, complete and chart vital signs, pharmacy review, identify need for refill medications. Perform clerical duties including: answering the telephone, MyChart assignment, schedule appointments, receiving and faxing documents.
- Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide patient education, i.e. FOB testing, crutch walking, home blood pressure machines. Recognize acute problems and changes in a patients' condition and respond appropriately by notifying clinical staff; perform CPR if required.
- Demonstrate cultural and age specific competencies when providing direct patient care. Demonstrate good hand washing technique, clean/sterilize patient equipment and rooms using appropriate infection control techniques.
- Procure and stock equipment and supplies and ensure that equipment is operable through quality assurance checks. Request or provide interpreter services to non-English speaking patients (if applicable).
- Complete new employee and annual clinical competency reviews when requested. Work at other NorthPoint satellite clinical sites.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Diploma or an associate degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program that includes a clinical externship.
- Certification or eligibility for certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to clinics.
Nice to have:
- Ability to perform the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Lift a child weighing up to 30 pounds from the floor.
- Maneuver wheelchairs carrying patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
- Walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Current CPR certification.
- Experience:
- Working in a community health and family practice setting providing services to medically underserved populations.
- Working with pediatric patients.
- Using EPIC or similar electronic health record system to schedule and register clients and document client data/care.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and correct procedures for handling sterile/contaminated materials.
- Sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by diverse and vulnerable individuals.
