What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Support position at Henning Inc?

Title: Temporary Support Staff 

Work Hours: 24 Hour Position – full and part-time hours 

Reports to: Support Staff Lead / On-Site Manager 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Receives necessary information from previous shift personnel pertaining to events that transpired during the shift such as resident medical problems, disciplinary problems, or new arrivals and any special instructions.  
  • Relieves the watch and informs necessary personnel that the watch has been relieved. Makes entries into the log showing the time the watch was relieved noting name and title. 
  • Organizes and supervises resident work details to assist in maintaining facility cleanliness to ensure that facility meets facilities and contracting agency requirements. 
  • Conducts scheduled and impromptu cleanliness checks of the facility and resident’s personal belonging to maintain it in an orderly and clean fashion to meet health and environmental requirements. This includes all rooms within the facility and residents’ personal belongings. 
  • Communicates with residents and staff professionally to affirm and enhance self-esteem, dignity, and to maintain positive resident and staff relations. 
  • Participates in staff meetings by sharing observations and recommendations regarding the facility, residents and staff relations to identify and resolve problems and function as a unified team. 
  • Maintains confidentiality obtained through job duties regarding employees, vendors, residents, or outside agencies so that sensitive information is only given on a "need to know" basis. 
  • Complies with company policies and work rules as described in the company Employee Handbook, the Statement of Work, and the Facility Policies and Procedures Manual. 
  • Adheres to attendance policies and is available to work any shift to ensure adequate coverage of the program and to ensure the safety and security of the residents. 
  • Complies with facility safety rules and takes appropriate corrective action to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and without injury to self or others. 
  • Ensure the safety and security of both tenants or other building occupants and the property 
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations. 
  • Conducts self within appropriate and expected professional boundaries and policies. 
  • Respond to and assist with medical emergencies, alarms and other security related occurrences, 
  • Provide customer service to tenants and guests, providing information and assistance, 
  • De-escalate tense situations. 
  • Reporting any unusual behavior, conflicts, or recovery deviations to the relevant professionals. 
  • Maintains confidentiality and earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions. 
  • Assist with building upkeep and maintenance as needed. 
  • Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained. 
  • Assists in developing natural support and community living.

  1. Ability to handle intoxicated and escalated residents calmly and compassionately. 
  1. General office environment, possible shared office space. 
  1. Promotes a positive working and living environment for staff and residents. 
  1. Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

  1. Ability to grasp, type, see, talk, hear, and lift and carry 50 pounds of weight by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner. This position will also be performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.  

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION: 

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  1. Ability to pass State and federal background checks. 
  1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, able to maintain poise and self-control under stress 
  1. Ability to pass a pre-screening drug test. 
  1. Ability and willingness to work through a variety of complications and issues that may arise. Sensitivity to Alaska’s homeless populations. 
  1. Demonstrated effective oral and interpersonal communication skills including an ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, service providers and the public. 
  1. Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignment with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member. 
  1. Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations. 
  1. At least one year experience, but two or more years preferred
