General Statement of Duties

HCPS OPPORTUNITY SCHOOL

Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.

• The selected candidate will provide support for students at the high school level.
• The successful candidate will be required to provide direct professional, educational, career and general developmental counseling services to secondary school students.
• This is a 220-Days School Counseling assignment.

Essential Duties

The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Must have a thorough knowledge of the curriculum, instruction, and counseling / guidance theory and practice. Counseling skills must include problem identification / analysis skills and basic therapy resolution. Communication skills, both oral and written, must be highly developed to meet the diverse needs of the clientele, professional staff, and other community agencies. Must be able to organize and carry out student activity programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must have a post-graduate certification / licensure / endorsement in secondary school counseling by the Virginia Department of Education.

Additional Information

This vacancy is for the 2024-25 school year with an August 5, 2024 start date. Annual contract salary will be prorated to official start date.

This position comes with an additional $3300 Opportunity School stipend.
