Asphalt Surfacing Company (ASCO) is looking to add an experienced Microsurfacing Foreman to it's team.
The Microsurfacing Foreman is responsible for overseeing and managing microsurfacing operations, ensuring quality work, efficiency, and safety on all projects. The role involves coordinating the crew, equipment, and materials to complete projects on time and within budget. This individual acts as a key leader on-site, providing guidance and direction to the team while maintaining compliance with company and regulatory standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership & Supervision:
- Manage and supervise the microsurfacing crew, ensuring efficient operations and teamwork.
- Provide training and mentorship to crew members, emphasizing proper techniques and safety practices.
- Delegate tasks to crew members based on skills and project needs.
- Project Management:
- Review project plans, specifications, and schedules to ensure all work aligns with project requirements.
- Coordinate daily work schedules, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Monitor project progress and address any issues or delays promptly.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of microsurfacing equipment, including pavers, spreaders, and rollers.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure equipment is properly calibrated to maintain consistent application rates for materials such as emulsions and aggregates.
- Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules for all microsurfacing machinery to minimize downtime and avoid costly repairs.
- Work with mechanics or maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues promptly.
- Train crew members on safe and efficient operation of microsurfacing equipment, emphasizing best practices to prolong equipment life and enhance productivity.
- Quality Assurance:
- Inspect microsurfacing applications to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications.
- Identify and resolve any quality concerns or deficiencies during operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and project milestones.
- Safety Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures on-site.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure crew members wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report and investigate any accidents or safety incidents.
- Material & Resource Management:
- Manage inventory of materials such as emulsions, aggregates, and additives.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials to job sites.
- Minimize waste and optimize resource utilization.
- Communication & Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the crew and project management team.
- Provide regular updates to project managers on job progress, challenges, and completion timelines.
- Document project activities, including work hours, materials, and equipment usage.
Requirements / Qualifications
To perform the essential functions of this position, individuals should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in road construction and microsurfacing operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role preferred.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred); additional training in construction management or a related field is a plus.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining microsurfacing equipment.
- In-depth understanding of microsurfacing processes, materials, and techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
- OSHA safety certification, and First Aid/CPR training are advantageous.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift heavy objects (50 lbs), and work long hours during peak construction seasons.
Work Environment
- Primarily outdoor job sites, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May require overnight travel to remote job sites.
