JOB TITLE: General Maintenance Technician
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Coordinator of Facilities Maintenance
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the facility. This role involves troubleshooting issues, performing preventative maintenance, and completing general repairs to buildings, equipment, and grounds. The ideal candidate will be a versatile and resourceful individual with a strong understanding of various maintenance trades and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- AssistS with performing routine and emergency repairs to buildings, including but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, preventative maintenance, grounds, etc.
- Conducts regular inspections and assists with preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and building systems according to established schedules, including:
- Lubricating machinery and equipment
- Checking and replacing filters
- Inspecting belts and hoses
- Monitoring equipment performance
- Documenting maintenance activities
- Assists with basic HVAC maintenance tasks such as changing filters, cleaning coils, and reporting any significant issues to specialized technicians.
- Performs basic groundskeeping duties.
- Performs basic maintenance and repairs on various types of equipment, as needed.
- Adheres to all safety procedures and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices. Identifies and reports any unsafe conditions.
- Assists with, diagnoses, and troubleshoots maintenance issues to determine root causes, and implements effective solutions.
- Completes work orders accurately and in a timely manner, documenting all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Assists with maintaining an inventory of necessary maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments regarding maintenance needs and project status.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals (preferred).
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic computer skills for work order systems and communication.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade preferred, but not required. (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
