GENERAL SUMMARY:
Functions as the face and voice of the dialysis unit, providing a welcoming atmosphere for patients and others, both in person and on the phone. Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, completes relevant forms, enters key information into databases, uses and provides reports. Obtains patients records, schedules tests and treatments, registers new patient, types miscellaneous materials and performs other related duties.
This is a role that supports our Berkley location and St. Clair Shores Locations. There is not a set schedule between locations. Addresses listed below.

Department Description:
Southeastern Michigan Kidney Center is a home only unit (without outpatient dialysis) that serves only peritoneal dialysis. Census is 40 PD patients.
Staffed with full-time Nephrologists. In addition, we have 2 full-time Home Nurses, a travel pool home dialysis technician and dialysis registry clerk.
We case manage 40 pts who are monitored by connected health platform for Baxter system. Patients are trained to perform dialysis treatments at home within the clinic. PD training takes 7-10 days. The home team schedules monthly clinic visits for all home patients with the interdisciplinary team and lab draws for PD patients. Our team provides pt education as well as referrals to transplant services for sites the pt requests to be referred to.
The unit is typically open Monday through Friday 8am to 430pm for pt care hours with some flexibility based on the clinic's needs. The Home Nurse is scheduled to take daily after hour on-call including weekends. The home clinic is closed most weekends and holidays depending on the clinic's needs (training or clinical need for a patient).
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, working in a compassionate manner toward the patients and their family members that are part of the dialysis program.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the billing cycle
- Completes medical records responsibilities.
- Assists with/enters scheduling information and corrections into Dimensions.
- Fulfills lab computer responsibilities.
- Fulfills Network/CROWN Web requirements.
- Prepares monthly reports and statistics.
- Adheres rigorously to all infection control/infection prevention requirements.
- Maintains office supplies. Maintains a neat and safe work environment and appropriately speak up as needed regarding potential concerns.
- Communicates and functions as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Positively contributes on a daily basis to the goals and objectives of the dialysis program (incenter and home) as appropriate to the scope of position.
- Demonstrates the ability to plan work activities; demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of unit administrative, organizational, and operating procedures/policies.
- Completes all required and assigned in-services and online education and demonstrates incorporation of the teaching/learning as appropriate to position.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Requires high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Requires computer experience; familiarity of Microsoft Office preferred.
- Experience with entering information into databases preferred.
