Pay Range: MEDICATION COLLECTION TECH - $21.90 to $35.04
Job Summary:
The Medication Collection Technician (MCT) has the responsibility and accountability for the home medication collection of patients across the continuum of care. The MCT’s role is to ensure high quality home medication collection, and computer entry of this information for review by physicians and nurses to assist in clinical decision making. All the criteria-based duties and standards will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the organization. The MCT will not perform any acute care Pharmacy Technician functions, e.g. interact with medication dispensing systems (Pyxis).
Licensure and Certification:
- Current California Pharmacy Technician license required
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.
Education:
- Associates degree or a technical certification in a healthcare related program or equivalent knowledge and experience preferred.
Experience:
- Two (2) or more years of retail pharmacy technician experience preferred.
- Experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Experience with Meditech Client-Server software preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and all levels of hospital and medical staff
- Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical products, generic names, routes of administration, dosage forms etc.
- Working knowledge of medical abbreviations, medical terminology and disease states
- Good level of judgment and ability to work independently
- Typing skills (30 words per minute)
- Ability to learn new computer programs in order to quickly and efficiently navigate clinical information systems and pharmacy-related databases
- Excellent organizational skills required due to the fast-pace and dynamic workflow for this role
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Demonstrate basic mathematical skills
- Presents and operates in a professional manner which commands respect, reflects a high level of competency, and encourages congenitally
Physical Demands - Clerical/Administrative Non-Patient Care:
- Frequent sitting and standing/walking with frequent position change.
- Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
- Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
- Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
- Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
