The Position: 910 Media Group is seeking an experienced, high-energy digital journalist to join our team as a Digital Audience Development Editor. This Traverse City, Michigan-based manager will collaborate on strategies that grow and engage our local audience and build long-term loyalty among our viewers and subscribers. Job No. 1: Working to ensure our journalism and content meets the needs of our growing local digital audience.

This key role will move at the speed of news in a robust and ever-changing newsroom and content creator environment, working with content leaders on coverage needs while coordinating fast-paced work within the Audience team. They will specialize in finding a wide audience for our local communities with stories, photos, videos, graphics and other content, and optimizing them for different social and digital platforms. This candidate will lead the charge on how to create eye-catching social graphics, top-notch alerts, conversational social copy, unique newsletter subject lines and more.

Responsibilities:

• Data-Driven Strategy: Leverage web and social audience metrics to test and refine story ideas, using data to guide both digital and broadcast content creation.
• Creator Economy Engagement: Collaborate with local influencers to produce authentic content that resonates with younger, digital-first audiences. Develop partnerships with influencers to amplify station messaging and expand our reach.
• Cross-Platform Experimentation: Lead creative initiatives across emerging digital platforms. Stay ahead of the curve by testing new strategies for community engagement.
• Audience Value Proposition: Help redefine how local TV/print content serves its audience. Shift focuses from just production to creating meaningful value for viewers across platforms.
• Vertical Video Leadership: Take charge of producing vertical news video content for Instagram and other emerging platforms. Collaborate with other staff across departments on creating compelling stories on these and other platforms.
• Community Engagement: Organize and execute community events that bring viewers/readers together in meaningful ways. Help build connections that foster station loyalty and offer new revenue opportunities.
• Gen AI Innovation: Explore the use of generative AI tools to enhance content creation and audience engagement. Work daily to push the boundaries of what AI can do for the station and its audience.

Qualifications:

• A track record of experimenting and iterating, quickly and often.
• At least 3-5 years of digital audience engagement, strategy, and reporting experience. Ability to use analytics tools to make real-time decisions for elevating our journalism and developing related digital strategies.
• Has a passion for finding unique, creative ways to engage with audiences across digital platforms. Strong curiosity in how people use digital platforms in a fast-evolving media ecosystem.
• Knowledge of major audience platforms, including sending alerts, managing a home page, social platforms like Facebook, TikTok, X, Threads, Instagram and LinkedIn, best practices and functions, and how people consume information there.
• Expert knowledge of social platform analytics, where to find them and how to collect them and analyze them.
• Strong collaborative instincts and a love of teamwork.
• Comfort with a job that will be demanding, fast-paced and constantly evolving.
• Understanding newsletter best practices.
• Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams.
