HERITAGE DAY CAMP ADULT COUNSELOR
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To provide a summer child care experience that is organized, creative, relational in a safe and nurturing environment.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. In addition, the ability to work well with adults and other students, maintaining excellent working relationships while positively representing HCS. Ability to easily share their faith in Jesus Christ with children as the opportunity arises. Must enjoy working with children and have the desire to become a positive mentor. Employees shall possess organizational and creative characteristics along with the ability to demonstrate mature decision making and sound judgment. A respectful and responsible attitude and demeanor is essential.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A licensed teacher or finishing a licensure program is desired. Preference will be given to current employees of Heritage Christian in good standing with teaching or child care management experience. Must be CPR certified or obtain certification prior to the start of the Summer Child Care Program.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Effective classroom management skills
- Proficiency in use of technology in the classroom
- Ability to design age and bible specific classroom activities
- Ability to set and maintain classroom rules and guidelines
- Demonstrated skills in working with elementary age children in a classroom or child care setting.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and develop age appropriate program activities for use in the classroom.
- Maintain a daily attendance log of all students assigned to the class.
- Provide responsible care and appropriate supervision to children in the child care program.
- In conjunction with the Heritage Day Camp Coordinator, establish classroom standards of behavior, student expectations, cleanliness of classroom areas and field trip procedures.
- Assign duties and direct the classroom assistants assigned to the class.
- Supervise gym, recess and lunch duties as scheduled by the Heritage Day Camp Coordinator
- In conjunction with the Heritage Day Camp Coordinator, set and maintain classroom rules and guidelines for behavior, spiritual development and citizenship.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position. Must be able to maintain a stationary position for the majority of the workday. Must be able to traverse campus. Must be able to use a computer and other audio-visual equipment. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. Must be able to position oneself to work with children. Must be able to communicate with others. Specific vision abilities required in this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear low-volume sounds. Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Indoors, outdoors, change in temperature/humidity; potential for excessive noise, using computer/monitor screen; may work alone, around or with others. Some exposure to the elements is to be expected while assisting with the duties of this position.

WORK SCHEDULE: 7:00-4:00 or 8:30-5:30 During Camp Weeks June and July, Overtime may occur in a week
