Heritage Homes, Inc., a non-profit agency based in Holland, provides 24-hour support to men and women in five group homes. The adults that we serve in our residential supportive services program have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our Adult Foster Care (AFC) programs maintain Michigan Specialized Certification, a process that helps ensure that our staff are well equipped to meet the highest level of care needs. In addition, our AFC programs are accredited by CARF, an internationally recognized rehabilitation industry accrediting body.
We work with each individual on the things that make a difference in their well-being and ability to live comfortably in the community of their choice. The communities in which we currently have group homes include Allendale, Holland, Grand Haven, and Jenison..
JOB SUMMARY
In this position, the Program Assistant assists the Home Manager in directing the activities of the program and will act as a team leader and resource for direct support staff, working to build and maintain a cohesive team. The Program Assistant acts in the Home Manager’s absence as delegated and will be required to respond to emergency phone calls on a scheduled basis.
The Program Assistant will assist in implementing an engaging day program that provides opportunities for residents to build friendships and participate in social/recreation activities between the homes and in the community.
The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of the daily needs of residents, reviewing the work of the direct support professionals, and carrying out weekly and monthly tasks as assigned.
The Program Assistant spends approximately 80% of their time providing direct support to the clients.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Required:
- Over the age of 18.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Prior experience in direct support (providing care) work
- Strong interest in working with developmentally disabled population.
- Valid, current Michigan driver’s license with driving record that meets insurance company requirements.
- Able to lift sixty-five pounds frequently throughout the work shift.
- Possess ability to communicate positively and effectively, verbally and in writing, and to act as an effective member of a service delivery team.
- Ability to pass a TB test, drug screen, pre-employment physical, and criminal background check.
- Demonstrated reliability, trustworthiness, dependable attendance, excellent initiative and judgment.
- Must have sufficient visual and auditory acuity with or without corrective lenses/aids to observe clients and detect signs of changes in client behavior or other activity or event requiring intervention.
Preferred:
- Experience with working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Experience in a leadership role
COMPENSATION DETAILS
The starting rate of pay for this position is $20.15 per hour ($16.75 base pay plus $3.40 state wage pass through). * Note that hours in various shifts may be assigned to ensure the home’s schedule. Will be required to work every other weekend.
This is an hourly, full time 1st (6A-2P/2nd Shift (2P-10P) position* with benefits. Full time benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance (a premium co-pay is deducted through payroll), short term disability insurance, life insurance, paid vacation, paid personal days, and paid sick time. (*Note that hours in various shifts may be assigned to ensure the home's schedule. Will be required to work every other weekend and to respond to emergency/call off calls on a scheduled basis.)
