CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Manager, performs work of some technical difficulty. This position will work with a variety of computer hardware and software systems including personal computers, printers, scanners, modems, Microsoft Office etc. The position will require basic hardware repair knowledge and basic software troubleshooting knowledge. This position will often be the employees’ first line of contact regarding their IT issues, so basic knowledge on a wide variety of technologies is required. This position will also require moderate administrative and interpersonal skills and will involve some shift work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in maintaining agency hardware, such as personal computers, laptops, printers, scanners and modems.
- Use agency provided solutions to image computers for deployment.
- Answer Help Desk phone calls and perform basic troubleshooting over the phone.
- Perform basic end user software troubleshooting on agency systems to include, but not limited to Microsoft Office, TRACS, CAD (Tiburon Mobile), Records Management Systems (Aciss), Jail Management Systems (SmartJail) Internet Explorer, Chrome
- Perform basic network connectivity troubleshooting.
- Document work performed in the agency work order system.
- Maintain the IT section fixed asset and parts inventory in assigned databases.
- Perform other administrative tasks as directed by the Information Technology Manager.
- Provide computer related training to other members of the Sheriff’s Office to increase user productivity.
- Assist in the maintenance of agency security camera systems.
- Performs hardware preventative maintenance as directed by the Information Technology Manager.
- Provides technical assistance to other members of the Sheriff’s Office as needed.
- Ability to assist with large scale projects such as department/office relocations, new equipment installations, etc.
- The ability to run and terminate CAT6 wire.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Training and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Some training in computer hardware either from a tech school or on the job training experience.
B. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and their interface with applications.
- The ability to learn the functions of all the Sheriff’s Office computer equipment and their capabilities.
- The ability to quickly comprehend new applications and equipment and to make recommendations for their use, as necessary.
- Basic network knowledge of TCP/IP.
- Moderate administrative and organization skills.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, crawl and climb ladders in the repair, maintenance, and installation of computer/telephone equipment.
- Ability to carry equipment weighing approximately five to 75 pounds.
