We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Events to help create exceptional experiences and magical memories at our luxury, all-inclusive, waterfront wedding venue located on the Chesapeake Bay in North Beach, Maryland.
The Director of Events is responsible for successfully managing the Event Coordination team, all Front of House positions including Catering Servers, the Bar Manager, and all bartenders. They ensure the events planned by the Sales and Specialist Team run according to their Event Contract and client expectations.
They lead/train/mentor our event staff to be a high performing team and oversee our Mentorship Program.
Job Summary
- This position requires someone who is extremely hospitable in nature, flexible, patient and detail-oriented.
- Must be able to keep track and execute every detail of a wedding or other catered event.
- Food Service and/or hospitality experience requested.
- Must be positive, friendly, professional and organized with a strong focus on customer service
- and heart leadership.
- Expect to work most weekends and evenings. Must have an extremely flexible schedule to
- accommodate last-minute event bookings, party support, and/or event staff coverage.
- This position is physically demanding, including 10 hour shifts on your feet, moving tables and chairs,
- and working in tented events outside without air conditioning.
- The Director of Events is expected to run weddings as needed, train staff on the job, and fill the
- party support role working alongside the EC and staff through dinner service.
- The Director of Events also may need to provide breaks to bartenders when necessary or fill in our beverage services
- at the events, so they must be legally able to serve alcohol in the state of Maryland (21 ).
- A smaller portion of the work week is at a desk in the office doing paperwork and communicating with clients,
- mentoring the event coordination/bar manager team, and acting as part of the Leadership Team.
- Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for a high performing team- training, supervising, and leading all ECs, Bar manager, & event staff.
- Coordinates catered functions. Reviews and has a thorough understanding of all paperwork to coordinate scheduled events.
- Meets & Collaborates weekly with the departments to plan and coordinate scheduled events to ensure the efficient execution of the event and that it adheres to the clients invoice/contract and expectations.
- Inspects venue space prior to scheduled event to check whether room setup, menu, and schedule of events conforms to the functions sheet.
- Greet financially responsible clients prior to the onset of the function and is present throughout the duration to assist where needed. Periodically checks with client/VIPs to ensure satisfaction with the function and to respond to any additional requests.
- Continually directs and assists ECs and Event Staff to ensure that all details are carried out according to the clients specifications and within the companies policies.
- Actively participates in the Leadership Team- making high level decisions, collaborating with all department heads, and being an integral part of making sure we meet and exceeds labor budget/goals and beverage budget/goals.
Schedule: Must be available and willing to work weekends, holidays, late nights, and any other
times as required to support your team, coordinate parties and perform any other job responsibilities.
Education: Two-year associates degree or a bachelors degree from a four-year college desired.
Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language of clients, banquet staff
and other employees.
Experience:
Must possess general knowledge of food and beverage and service procedures, generally involving two years as a server, dining room manager, or host/host.
Physical: Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to four hours in length and to lift, bend, and stoop. Must have the ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
