ROLE: EHS Specialist

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or safety field (required)
  • Master's degree in environmental or safety field (preferred)
  • One to three years' relevant work experience
  • Relevant active environmental or safety training records and/or certifications (preferred)
DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate in a persuasive manner.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
DESCRIPTION: HGS is looking for a high-speed, energetic environmental or safety oriented professional to join our team. We view this opportunity as a hybrid role, providing critical support to both our environmental and water safety divisions.
At minimum, the EHS Specialist is responsible for:
  • providing assistance with regulatory research and report preparation;
  • entering of audit findings into databases;
  • mobilizing to the field in support of active environmental, health and safety contracts;
  • developing and maintaining an operations schedule for environmental staff, including all mobilizations, interim and final deliverables, and staff availability;
  • travelling to various facilities for the purpose of collecting water samples by following written protocols (in accordance with contract specifications);
  • taking field measurements of water (pH, temperature, etc.), following aseptic techniques to avoid contaminating sample containers;
  • recording data carefully and completely;
  • maintaining a familiarity with sampling-related contract specifications for each assigned facility;
  • interfacing with clients (as appropriate) during sampling events and be prepared to respond to questions or concerns regarding contractual and/or methodological requirements; and
  • performing other related duties as assigned.
TRAVEL: 50% (Primarily within Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey)

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Be capable of lifting 50 lbs. (unassisted)
  • Be capable of being on your feet for hours at a time (during field work)
