Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.

The Focus of Mobile Crisis Recovery Team:

The Mobile Crisis Recovery Team provides services to those within our community. The purpose of this team is to meet people where they are, help them with their crisis, and help them get linked to an outpatient clinic for further treatment & resources. This is a 100% community-based team. Being community-based allows our team the freedom to tailor their approach to the needs of our clients and the challenges they face within their lives & communities.

Where You Fit In:

  • Peer Recovery Specialists provided crisis support to clients alongside Clinicians during community visits.

What to Expect:

  • The Peer Recovery Specialists start each shift at the Crisis Intervention Unit or the Adult Addictions Clinic (location based on assigned schedule), visits are completed in person in the community. The Peer Recovery Specialists working on this team are paired with a Clinician while working with individuals in the community. The Peer Recovery Specialists’ caseload is based off the current needs of those receiving services and in crisis.

Am I Qualified?

  • Minimum of two (2) years in Recovery required. Peer Recovery Certification required. High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must have worked at minimum one full year as a certified peer specialist offering peer services.

  • Valid Indiana driver’s license that meets standards and policy of Eskenazi Health Center.
  • Willingness to be trained in CBT methods for group facilitation required. Experience leading group or 12-Step meetings is a plus.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Engages with individuals who have been identified as in crisis for the purpose of assisting with access to initial and ongoing treatment and support
  • Provides services in a variety of locations including client’s home, community, emergency department and outpatient treatment providers
  • Works with clinical team to conduct initial needs assessment, reviews the patient’s mental health and substance use history and assists in identifying the client’s goals and expectations
  • Helps individuals identify and address any barriers to on-going engagement with the treatment system
  • Accompanies patients to appointments, meetings and social service agencies as needed
  • Manages data entry into the electronic medical record and for purpose of tracking outcomes
  • Integrates cultural awareness and sensitivity of diverse needs into client care in daily work
  • Accurately, legibly, and legally documents services provided; completes other required assessments and documentation
  • Develops positive rapport with clients and their families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Communicates effectively with cognitively impaired clients; remains composed and effective when faced with unexpected situations

Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center's primary mission is to serve individuals with serious mental illness and chronic addiction as well as seriously emotionally disturbed children and their families. Patients of all ages are welcomed, from children to seniors, with a philosophy of care that stresses strength-based and family- and community-centered treatment utilizing the Recovery Model of treatment.
