Manage HPS Activities for HICH/W Plant Operations Design, develop and implement packaging standards to meet quality, function and cost guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage HPS Activities and Continuous Improvement activities in the manufacturing area.
- Manage and direct activities following the HLJ Plant Layout
- Manage the HPS, Manufacturing Teams and ensure that you are actively involved with reporting, charting issues and recording suggested changes.
- Actively investigate and maintain all open and back issues from Continuous Improvement activity and manufacturing systems team ideas. Track % closed by system and issue periodic reports and charts.
- Assist, train and implement Karakuri ideas for plant operations.
- Be a member of the Safety and 4-S audit Team; attend their meetings, record meeting notes and suggestions.
- Work effectively with Quality, Technical Engineering and other departments on Continuous Improvement ideas.
- Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering to record notes and produce pre-approved check sheets for all lines and component machinery.
- Assist in training Associates concerning the above Manufacturing System
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Packaging Engineering
- Serves as a member of various committees as needed.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
- Review with manufacturing, quality, purchasing and materials to standardize packaging options for commodities.
- Review with manufacturing, quality, sales and customers for FG packaging requirements.
- Understand customer packaging guidelines and expectations; assist team in obtaining customer approvals for packaging and packaging trials.
- Ensure transportation, warehouse storage and line side use is considered for optimal design.
- Understand and meet environmental requirements for packaging.
- Review and summarize current packaging cost and develop proposal for cost savings.
- Develop written packaging strategies for commodities.
- Assist purchasing with new suppliers and new launch items for early program involvement regarding packaging.
- Track all costs, associated with new packaging.
- Ability to communicate design requirement effectively to suppliers.
- Assist materials in the strategy to determine packaging allocation requirements for suppliers.
- Basic supplier management skills – requesting quotations, understanding terms and conditions.
- Develop policies and procedure that define standardization of packaging.
Specialized Training, Skills, Abilities, Experience:
- 4 yr degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent field.
- 2 or more years experience in Packaging, preferably in the automotive market.
- Previous experience in commodity packaging design and customer packaging requirements.
- Must be able to use a computer effectively, understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Windows, Outlook, etc.
- Strong communication, verbal and written skills required and the ability to understand and create a complete business case for decisions.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
- Office environment with noise from computer peripherals such as printers and disk drives.
- Factory environment with noise from manufacturing environment. Exposure to moving equipment, parts and electrical shock. Possible serious injury due to carelessness around equipment.
