What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler Lead position at Hi-Lex Controls?
Directs hourly associates verifying that operations are performed in a safe manner. Ensures that product is at work cells to maintain productivity targets. Periodically trains new and/or less skilled associates in work cells.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide instructions to forklift operators while promoting a teamwork environment.
- Instructs operators in the safe and proper operation of all equipment to move product to the work cell.
- Instructs operators in 4-S program to improve their understandings and activities.
- Assists others in team problem solving efforts.
- Must have excellent attendance record.
- Must have knowledge of all work cells.
- Responsible for putting finished goods in their appropriate areas and maintain a proper FIFO order in finished goods.
- Responsible for maintaining FIFO for components.
- Responsible for stacking, staging, retrieving dunnage for the production lines.
- Must be able to operate a pallet wrapper and floor scales.
- Follow safety rules and keep work area clean and in an orderly condition.
- Must maintain 4-S around there work cell and throughout the plant.
- Will provide support for all areas in the shop and other task outside the work cell. May work outside anytime through the year.
- Schedule MFG overtime. If there is no Lead on a shift, work as a group to set overtime for the shift missing a Lead
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Fill in for absent operators in all work cells.
- Works with trainers and team leaders on work cell change over’s and schedules.
- Assigned associates in work cell to cover production needs.
- Follows all safety rules and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
- May have to work overtime with short notice.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
- Industrial truck license
- Knowledge of hand pallet jack, wrapping machine, scale, printer and computer
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in factory environment with noise from manufacturing environment. Exposure to moving equipment, parts and electrical shock. Possible serious injury due to carelessness around equipment.
- Often lifts, carries or moves objects-weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sometimes lifts, carries or moves objects – weighing more than 50 pounds.
