What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Hidden Valley Animal Clinic?
We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. We are a 7 doctor practice located in the South Hills. We also have a satellite practice in Washington, PA (not all candidates are required to commute there). We are open to training the right person that has minimal animal background.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide top notch customer service
- Being attentive to client and pet needs
- Identify and work compassionately with clients in various emotional states.
- Answer and triage phone calls from clients
- Schedule appointments and surgeries
- Check clients in for appointments
- Monitor schedule and flow
- Client call backs
- Managing record requests between other hospitals and specialty practices
- Fill prescriptions as directed on charts
- Help to maintain a clean atmosphere
- Process payment transactions
- Maintain proper documentation
- Communicate to clients using various apps
- Assist with approval process for online pharmacy prescription requests
- Check patient medical records for past histories, enter in computer and files
We will also provide training on some technician duties such as:
- Restraining animals for Veterinarian and technicians as required.
- Drawing blood, accessing veins quickly and minimizing patient discomfort to perform testing procedures.
- Performing necessary lab work such as x-rays, CBC's, blood profiles, urinalysis, heartworm tests (4DX), FELV/FIV tests, cultures and sensitivities and fungal cultures. Document test results and deliver to appropriate personnel.
- Communicating with patient's owner by describing medication, possible complications and warnings.
- Preparing specimens for mailing to hospitals according to practice requirements
- Providing help to other technicians with patient care as needed.
