What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Hidden Valley Animal Clinic?
We are looking for a Veterinary Technician to join our team! We are a seven doctor private practice located in the South Hills. We also have a satellite practice in Washington, PA (not all candidates are required to commute there). We would love technicians with experience to apply but are also open to training technicians with no/little experience. We also accept externships from other Vet Tech programs.
Responsibilities to include:
- Checking patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files.
- Preparing medication to be dispensed by counting tablets and preparing labels in an accurate manner.
- Restraining animals for Veterinarian as required.
- Assisting Veterinarian in surgery by preparing animals and monitoring them during surgery. Also responsible for preparing and monitoring during dental procedures as well as teeth scaling and polishing. Technician should keep accurate records in surgery log.
- Preparing all surgery packs by washing, drying and putting in special packs to be autoclaved.
- Applying knowledge of drawing blood, accessing veins quickly and minimizing patient discomfort to perform testing procedures.
- Performing necessary lab work such as x-rays, CBC's, blood profiles, urinalysis, heartworm tests (4DX), FELV/FIV tests, cultures and sensitivities and fungus cultures. Documents test results and delivers to appropriate personnel.
- Assisting Veterinarian with in-patient care in daily treatments to include maintaining IV fluids to assure they are still flowing, dispensing medication and feeding patients as directed.
- Communicating with patient's owner by describing medication, possible complications and warnings.
- Utilizing computer system to enter and reference patient information as needed, schedule appointments, check in/out, and communicate with owner as receptionist
- Preparing specimens for mailing to hospitals according to practice requirements.
- Assuring all materials are in exam rooms for doctors such as otoscopes and nail clippers.
- Maintaining cleanliness of exam room at all times.
- Providing help to other technicians with patient care as needed.
