Why You Should Apply:
Are you passionate about helping others on their journey to recovery? High Plains Mental Health Center is looking for an ACT Certified Peer Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with adults with serious mental illnesses, co-occurring substance use disorders, and/or serious physical health conditions in a community-based setting. You will provide peer support, share your lived experience, and help individuals achieve their recovery goals.

What You’ll Do:
As an ACT Certified Peer Specialist, you will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on promoting the recovery and community integration of individuals with serious mental health conditions. The position involves providing non-traditional, community-based mental health services that encourage independent living and supporting individuals in managing their illness. Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide information, resources, and support to consumers and their networks, emphasizing empowerment, hope, and strength.
  • Deliver services in line with consumers' individual service plans.
  • Engage in assertive community outreach to reduce hospitalizations, improve housing stability, and enhance quality of life.
  • Model successful behaviors and share lived experiences to guide the recovery process.
  • Help consumers access community, educational, and vocational resources to build life skills.
  • Encourage consumer involvement in treatment decisions, discussing medication, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
  • Assist consumers in setting and articulating goals for their recovery.
  • Be an active member of the ACT team, contributing to the team's success.
  • Provide after-hours crisis services in rotation with team members.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record for travel to clients' homes and office locations.
  • Foster positive, professional relationships with colleagues.
  • Attend supervision and provide timely, accurate documentation.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures and engage in continuous professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Must have lived experience with a behavioral health condition and a personal recovery story.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in the State of Kansas to provide Peer Support services, including background checks.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing serious mental illness.
  • Competency in using technology, including computers, software, and communication tools.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
