Work Schedule : Varied schedule Monday-Saturday, up to 19 hours per week, between 7am - 7pm, with some evening hours

Provide goal-directed, medically necessary Parent Peer Support services to caregivers of youth experiencing a Severe Emotional Disturbance with the goal of assisting the youth to remain in the least restrictive environment.

Service Provision Peer Support Services

  • Provides information and support to caregivers in both individual and group settings, so they have a better understanding of their youth’s socioemotional needs.
  • Assists caregivers in understanding the treatment planning process and supporting the implementation of the individualized, strength-based treatment plan.
  • Assists the family in understanding the roles of the various providers and the importance of the team approach.
  • Empowers caregivers to become involved in activities related to planning, development, and implementation of services for the youth.
  • Discusses the benefit of natural supports within the youth’s family and community.
  • Introduces methods of problem solving and development strategies to address issues. Provides support and information to caregivers of Transition Age Youth related to the shift from being the decision maker to being the support for youth.
  • Connects families to community resources.
  • Provide transportation in personal passenger vehicle to support patient attendance in medical appointments and other therapeutic goal-related activities to include development of community resources, employment or education access, social or patient-run activities and related supports.

Parent Peer Support Group Facilitation

  • Provide self-contained, and goal directed Parent Peer Support Groups to assist caregivers in minimizing or resolving the effects of mental and emotional impairments to the youth.
  • Parent Peer Support will make sure that group facilitation is conducted with a strength based and recovery focus.

Documentation

  • Complete progress notes in accordance with COMCARE and CCBHC guidelines which meet requirements for medical necessity, goal-directed treatment, and patient response to treatment within prescribed timelines.
  • Complete Notes for Record and authorizations for release of records as required and / or recommended.
  • Enters no show and cancellations for accuracy and completeness of medical record.

Minimum Qualifications : High school diploma or equivalent. Must self-identify as a caregiver to a person in recovery from a behavioral health condition and is able to fulfill the KDADS requirements to become a Certified Parent Peer Support Specialist within 6 months of hire.

Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.

Must complete orientations provided by Sedgwick County and COMCARE.
