What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Education Specialist position at High Point University?
High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Medical Education Specialist (MES) in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. This position effectively manages the daily operational activities of didactic education in collaboration with the didactic phase faculty. The MES will be responsible for coordinating student schedules, administering and formatting exams, monitoring attendance, and administering assessments of students during the didactic phase. The MES will have significant interaction with both students and faculty, and an amicable professional demeanor is essential. Additionally, the MES will serve as acting administrative assistant for the didactic phase faculty. Additional activities include liaising with departmental and university faculty. The MES will work closely with didactic phase faculty to maintain the MPAS didactic curriculum. This would include providing support and assistance to the didactic faculty and assisting in the arrangement of various course activities for assigned curriculum elements. Additionally, the MES will perform all other duties as directed by the Physician Assistant Department Chair, the Dean of the School of Health Science, the High Point University Provost, or the High Point University President or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
Experience and Training
Prior related experience in higher education preferred
Health care education experience preferred
Training and / or experience in the development and use of assessment / survey tools preferred

Proficiency in PC computer skills to include MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Datatel

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Curricular Responsibilities
Schedule and proctor didactic phase exams prior to the beginning of each semester, based on course syllabi prepared by Course Director(s).
Schedule and proctor all didactic phase exam reviews, based on course syllabi prepared by Course Director(s).
Schedule didactic phase competencies / check offs for H&P, CMP, Fundamentals of Surgery courses based on course syllabi prepared by Course Director(s). Create student schedule for these events in consultation with Course Director(s).
Assign faculty graders for all competencies / check offs, in consultation with MPAS Program Director.
Prepare, schedule, and proctor CDM Mastery of Learning exams based on course syllabi prepared by Course Director(s).
Create CDM Simulation schedule prior to the beginning of each semester.
Work with Program Director / Assistant Program Director to ensure graded assignments / assessments for all courses are stored according to ARC-PA and MPAS requirements. Storage may involve hard copy filing an / or electronic file management across various software platforms.
Communicate with Assistant Program Director regarding all student absence(s) requests and track all absence(s).
Create and administer Qualtrics surveys for any didactic phase guest lecturer(s) in consultation with Course Director(s) and ensure results are stored according to ARC-PA and MPAS requirements.
Build student schedules each semester in consultation with Program Director and HPU Graduate Admissions.
Collect and organize data from student course evaluations.
ExamSoft ResponsibilitiesEnter all new students into ExamSoft.Add MPAS courses into ExamSoft prior to the beginning of each semester.Enroll students into courses.Enter new faculty (and additional users) into ExamSoft.Post exams / assessments created by Course Director(s).Work with Program Director / Assistant Program Director / Course Director(s) to ensure graded assignments / assessments for all courses are stored according to ARC-PA and MPAS requirements.Troubleshoot ExamSoft platform issues for faculty or students.
Standardized Patient (SP) ResponsibilitiesMaintain SP database.Schedule SP(s) for MPAS events (i.e. simulations, competencies, Formative / Summative evaluations).Provide SP names to Department Administrator for payment processing.Work with Course Director(s) to ensure case information sent to SP(s) to allow preparation.Create and administer Qualtrics surveys related to SP(s) in consultation with faculty.
Formative / Summative AssessmentsDevelop student schedule for Formative / Summative evaluations in conjunction with Assistant Program Director.Notify students of Formative / Summative schedule.Create and manage gradebook for Formative / Summative grades.Collect and save all graded rubrics according to ARC-PA and MPAS requirements.Prepare all necessary documents for Formative / Summative evaluations.Written assessments, SP paperwork, station instructions, grading instructions / rubrics, etc.).Work with Director of Simulation to ensure rooms are set up for Formative / Summative evaluations.Work with Director of Simulation to organize and process students through Formative / Summative evaluation stations per schedule.Enter Formative / Summative evaluation grades into appropriate platform (i.e. Blackboard, etc.) as directed by Assistant Program Director.

MPAS Program Self-AssessmentProvide administrative support to include data collection / organization / presentation.
MPAS Committee supportProvide administrative support to assigned MPAS Committees to include scheduling, preparatory data collection / organization / presentation, minute creation and distribution.
MPAS Student AdvisingCreate and maintain Student / Faculty Advisor assignments.Collect and maintain advising forms from faculty / students.
MPAS Student OrientationLeads planning for annual student orientation programming in conjunction with MPAS leadership team. Event coordinator duties to include : Scheduling of space, speakers, food, etc.
