Job Title: Community Engagement and Career Awareness Specialist (part-time)
Reports to: Executive Director
Work Hours: up to 20 hours per week
Pay Rate: $25 per hour
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Job Description:
The Community Engagement and Career Awareness Specialist will lead initiatives to support at-risk students, engage families, and implement career awareness programming in partnership with schools and community organizations. This role is focused on addressing truancy, increasing student engagement, and fostering connections between families, educators, and external resources to enhance academic and career outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Truancy Intervention and Support:
- Form and lead a truancy team to address absenteeism and tardiness.
- Conduct outreach to parents, including phone calls to address excessive absences, recognize perfect attendance, and address required vaccination or physical record updates.
- Monitor and track attendance data to assess program impact.
- Career Awareness Programming:
- Develop and deliver classroom push-in sessions and career interest surveys for middle school students.
- Collaborate with teachers to schedule and execute career-focused activities.

- Plan and implement engaging career awareness events, such as Career Days.
- Family and Community Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison between parents, students, and school staff to build strong partnerships.
- Recognize and celebrate family efforts to support student attendance and engagement.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as DCF and BOOST! Coordinators, to secure resources and enhance program delivery.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Build relationships with school staff, including principals, teachers, and support personnel, to ensure program alignment with school goals.
- Partner with community organizations to provide additional resources such as financial literacy workshops and career development opportunities.
- Utilize multiple communication strategies to engage stakeholders effectively.
- Program Monitoring and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze engagement data from students and families.
- Prepare quarterly reports summarizing activities, outcomes, and key metrics.
- Address challenges proactively and incorporate feedback to improve programming.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Spanish speaking, preferred
- Experience in family or community engagement, program coordination, or career readiness initiatives.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including school staff, students, and community partners.
- Proficiency in data tracking and analysis tools.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of truancy intervention strategies.
- Experience working with underserved populations or at-risk youth.
- Familiarity with career readiness programs or curriculum development.
