Summary The Director of Financial Aid shall be responsible for the overall management and implementation of all aspects dealing with the Federal Student Aid Programs and institutional scholarships.
Functional Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Leadership
a. Administer the overall operation of the Financial Aid Office and maintenance of students'
financial records.
b. Supervise the administration of the scholarship programs in cooperation with scholarship
sponsors.
2. Financial Aid Program Responsibilities
a. Responsible for maintaining program compliance with all Federal financial aid policies:
- Supervise and administer the refunds of all appropriate aid programs in compliance
with Federal regulations. Maintain and monitor all documents identifying the student's
last date of attendance. Maintain documentation regarding all appropriate refunds made
as a result of such attendance data.
- Insure the accurate completion of the FISAP which insures correct allocations of
Federal funds to the College.
- Serve as the primary staff person responsible for the campus-based programs of aid:
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Federal Work
Study (FWS).
- Supervise staff responsible for the Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loan.
- Serve as Title IV Compliance Officer responsible for monitoring on-going publications
of Federal aid program regulations and effectively planning for implementation of any
required changes.
- Integrate all financial aid software with management information system of the College
(currently PowerFaids).
b. Develop academic standards of progress for financial aid recipients and monitor the progress
each semester.
3. Reporting
a. Complete state, federal, and institutional financial aid reports.
4. Administrative
a. Develop and administer the budget for the Financial Aid Office.
b. Update the financial aid policies and procedures manal annually.
c. Ensure financial aid policies are in compliance with Federal FERPA regulations.
5. Other Duties
a. Determine the eligibility for aid for each individual aid package for all eligible recipients.
b. Provide financial aid rulings to students only as a result of failure of other financial aid
counselors and staff members to address their specific concerns.
Consulting Responsibilities
1. Direct the cash control of federal funds and coordinate expenditures with the disbursements from
the Business Office.
2. Actively participate in professional organizations, attend professional conferences and
workshops to stay up-to-date with regulations, network with other financial aid
administrators, etc.
3. Submit an annual progress report for the financial aid area to the President.
4. Work w/Information Services to ensure accurate electronic transfer of student financial aid data.
5. Actively participate on appropriate college committees.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises one full-time employee and possibly work study/arrangement students in the Financial Aid Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications

1. Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree required. Related experience desired. Knowledge of methods of federal
budgeting of student financial aid desired.
2. Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and
respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
3. Mathematical Skills
Strong mathematical ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,
percentages, etc. Ability to apply accounting principals for reconciliation of all federal funds.
4. Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret complex federal regulations
and transmit into institutional policy. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished
in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must have good decision making ability.
5. Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a high degree of computer literacy.
6. Other Skills and Abilities
Must have the ability to work effectively with students, parents, college personnel, and
representatives from federal, state and local agencies. Should be service oriented and have
a positive attitude. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Must have the ability to
retain composure under pressure.
