Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Part-Time County Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of local government law and be able to provide expert advice to the Highland County Board of Supervisors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on matters related to solid waste removal, budgetary issues, and other county ordinances. They will also work closely with constitutional officers, building and zoning administrators, and the planning commission to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills and be able to draft policies, ordinances, easements, deeds, leases, and legal memoranda. They will also be responsible for reviewing contracts and providing reports related to that review.
The Part-Time County Attorney will attend monthly meetings of the Board of Supervisors, work sessions, and planning commission meetings as scheduled. They will also negotiate leases, contracts, deeds, and easements on behalf of the county and represent the county in general district court, circuit court, the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the Virginia Supreme Court as necessary.
