Records Assistant
Employment Status: Part-Time Regular - up to 24 hours per week.
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
The Highland County Records Center & Archives mission is to advise and assist County offices in the management, retention, preservation, storage, and disposition of their records. This position, under supervision of the Records Manager, is responsible for supporting the records and information management program.

Essential functions
- Identify, sort, label, digitize, describe, and assess records for conservation.
- Access and retrieve physical records or groups of records with short notice for all stakeholders.
- Interpret policy and legal documentation such as retention schedules, laws, and bulletins.
- Collaborate with records manager and subject matter experts to conduct research, create research aids and reports, and compile business process information. Assist with record retention & disposition.
- Utilize Laserfiche Cloud software for electronic and physical record management, e-forms, process automations, reports, and software testing. Requires basic computer skills such as Microsoft Outlook and word processing software.
- Perform cleaning and rehousing procedures such as record conservation, re-boxing, and stabilization.
- Performs clerical tasks in support of record operations: answers phones; assist pubic and staff with record requests and research questions verbally, in writing, or via email; retrieves, duplicates, and reshelves hard copy or electronic records.
Physical requirements
- Must be able to occasionally ascend and descend ladders or stairs, to service a light or retrieve records from a shelf.
- Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces and uneven terrain such as attics or basements.
- Must be able to lift, carry, slide or otherwise move 35-pound boxes repetitively. Occasionally up to 50 pounds. This may include stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling occasionally. Frequently includes reaching, grasping, twisting, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer which may require long periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Must have visual acuity to perform a frequent activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. Some work environments may be poorly lit.
- Must be able to walk and stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.
- Must be able to process records or complete computer work in personal protective equipment such as a respirator or dust mask occasionally in dusty or moldy areas.
- Must be able to communicate with colleagues, leadership, and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
