Major Responsibilities:

- Reviews all insurance demographic information to ensure accurate billing.
- Performs all necessary billing information (initial and follow up) to patients accounts in a timely and professional manner. This includes follow up of all required documents sent to the correct insurance for authorization and documentation of completion of services to ensure the billing process is followed.
- Responds to patient requests and correspondence daily.
- Works with outside agencies to ensure all documentation is sent out and received in a timely manner, this includes tracking of all documentation, can communicate and facilitate payments for patient accounts.
- Able to assist patients with insurance verification, coverage and benefits.
- Ability to understand insurance requirements and specific federal, state and local regulations pertaining to uniform billing, fraud, abuse and compliance criteria.
- Maintains knowledge of current regulations and requirements by third party payers in accordance with job duties.
- Collects payments on accounts, prepares receipts and assists patients with account balances. Completes work assignments and commitments on time. Involves customer and families and allows time for customers to process information provided. Demonstrates patient advocacy, assuring patient’s right of privacy, safety and confidentiality.
- Ability to focus and organize multiple work tasks involving other departments, and co-workers.
- Answers the telephone promptly and professionally.
- Demonstrates patient advocacy, assuring patient’s right of privacy, safety and confidentiality.
- Sorts, files and copies all paperwork necessary for accurate billing. Completes work assignments and commitments on time.
- Works collaboratively with all hospital departments. Flexible in response to unexpected change in work volume, emergencies, staffing and scheduling.
- Demonstrates proper use and conservation of supplies and equipment. Contributes to improve productivity.
- Other duties as assigned and cost saving measures hospital wide.
Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent. Previous medical terminology courses and information management skills preferred. 1-3 Years of Hospital/Physician Billing/Follow up and other Business office duties (cash posting, charge posting, refunds) required .3 years of hospital/physician office billing/follow up experience preferred.
