JOB SUMMARY
The Student Day Care Assistant supports the educational mission of the school and department administrators in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires professional judgment. This position will assist the day care coordinator in supervising children in a safe and positive learning environment.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:
- Ability to follow safety practices
- Ability to work with limited supervision and changing work priorities
- Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Job-related experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
- Knowledge of child development and ability to identify and adapt directives to students of all ages
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise children to ensure they are behaving appropriately and are safe and engaged in appropriate and engaging activities
- Assist in providing basic care needs (e.g., toileting, diapering, etc.) to provide basic needs for daily living
- Assist Day Care Coordinator in maintaining a well-managed and safe classroom environment
- Promote a positive environment to prepare students for learning
- Be proactive in identifying, addressing, and bringing to the attention of the administrator any potential safety concerns
- Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
- Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information, and meeting deadlines
- Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position
- Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
- As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
