Overview
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant workplace. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and policies that adhere to regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of occupational health, safety regulations, and the ability to conduct thorough investigations and training sessions.
Responsibilities
Compliance Management
- Develop, monitor, maintain, and enforce regulatory compliance programs for all applicable regulatory agencies associated, including but not limited to DHS, BATF, DOT, OSHA, EPA, DOD, and FBI.
- Conduct routine compliance audits and assessments of compliance systems, training, and documentations.
- Manage, maintain, and stay current on regulatory changes and update the company's environmental, safety, and security policies and procedures accordingly.
- Effectively communicate all new or updated environmental, safety, and security policies to tenants, existing employees, and new hires.
- Support the Director of Compliance & Warehousing is designing, developing, and maintaining regulatory compliance programs for regulating agencies.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Ensure the performance of risk assessments to identify potential workplace hazards, including chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological exposure.
- Develop and implement preventive measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Participate in corrective actions by conducting incident investigations to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences or incidents.
- Work closely with Warehousing personnel to investigate inventory loss, damage, and shortages concerning ATF regulations.
- Manage environmental concerns and issues, maintaining professional relationships and interactions with tenants, consultants, and legal representatives.
- Act as the company's primary POC for OSHA, DHS, BATF, CPR, and IATA related training.
- Log and respond to compliance-related request from government agencies.
Safety Training and Education
- Routinely design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees.
- Attend required training courses and conferences related to applicable regulations.
- Maintain a current DOT certification to support the training of applicable employees.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and awareness campaigns to reinforce an effective safety culture.
- Functions as the "responsible person" for HIP, including associated training and records.
Environmental Management
- Oversee environmental monitoring programs to track emissions, waste disposal, and resource consumption.
- Develop and execute strategies to minimize environmental impact.
- Manage environmental permits and reporting equipment.
Performance monitoring and Reporting
- Design, develop ,update, and perform routine compliance audits of training records, compliance policies, and compliance procedures per regulatory requirements.
- Track key environmental, safety, and security performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management of EHS and Security performance, including incident statistics and compliance status.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Collaborate with department managers to integrate safety considerations into daily operations.
- Foster a positive safety culture by actively engaging employees in safety initiatives.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on EHS matters to other departments.
- Manage environmental concerns and issues.
- Serve as the company's primary point of contact for OSHA, CPR, and IATA training and efforts.
- Serve as the company's primary point of contact for DHS & BATF and all relation training or actions.
- Support the Incident Commander.
- Conduct Background audits with Human Resources.
Other Duties as Assigned
Requirements
- Proven experience in environmental health and safety or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of DOD, DSCA, DHS, BATF, EPA and other applicable regulatory agencies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of budgets, financial objectives, and inventory control.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
