Highland Prep is a world-class, STEM college preparatory high school serving grades 9 through 12. The school’s academic program is designed for students interested in pursuing four-year college degree programs. The school offers an extensive STEM, Honors, and Advanced Placement curriculum in support of this mission. Highland Prep is searching for a skilled counselor to help provide direction and support to our students by offering a comprehensive counseling perspective. This includes academic and social/emotional support and guidance. The ideal school counselor will support the college admissions process, including financial aid, scholarship, and application processes. The ideal candidate will also be well-equipped in social/emotional support, including but limited to: building healthy relationships, implementing appropriate coping mechanisms, handling stress and trauma, and crisis response. Duties include conducting both academic and social/emotional workshops for the HP community, attending professional development (provided by the school), supporting senior-related events (including commencement), among other activities that promote the student and the school in a positive light.
The successful candidate will posses excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to coordinate with college and university networks, community support services, and government resources, among others. The successful candidate will also be friendly and professional, with outstanding interpersonal skills. Candidates must be highly qualified, possessing state certification, and a valid DPS fingerprint clearance card.

Counselor Responsibilities:
· Working with school administration to identify students in need of support
· Working with students to develop goals related to post-secondary plans
· Working with students to develop social/emotional goals
· Working with administration to support students’ academic progress
· Educating the school community about academic and college admissions-related topics
· Educating the school community about social/emotional topics relevant to today’s teens
· Recording/reporting progress with students
Counselor Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in guidance counseling, psychology, or social work
· A minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional counselor
· Superb verbal and written communication skills
· Aptitude to empathize with students and support receptiveness to counseling
