The RN-Psychiatric nurse provides direct patient care to individuals with psychiatric conditions, utilizing the nursing process to implement care plans that include medication administration and monitoring of patient well-being. This role involves collaboration across disciplines to ensure comprehensive treatment and support for patients and their families.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
- Reports to: Director Nursing - Geri Psych
- Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
Patient Care Activities:
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree, or RN Diploma required.
- Required Skills: Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within 12 months of employment.
- License: Current TN or Multi-State RN licensure.
- Minimum Work Experience: Six months to one year experience with psychiatric/behavioral patients.
