Description
The Software Applications Specialist has two core responsibilities:
- Partner with Sales Managers to support the progression of new business opportunities into delivered projects. This includes in-depth analysis and translation of customers’ software workflow and integration requirements, design of technical solutions and presentations/demonstrations to support and de-risk this process.
- Work with internal colleagues, external integration partners, and customers to ensure all elements of quoted software solution [configuration, custom development, testing] are meeting requirements. This includes detailed handover to the deployment team, and occasionally includes help with technical implementation, acceptance testing or customer support.
Key Duties of the Role:
- Analyze customer requests for proposals and define the optimal technical solution including workflow modelling and gap identification, solution crafting, potential partner software or integration specification and overall software solution design review. Customers are primarily in the US and EU.
- Work with product and project managers to translate business requirements into technical designs for specific customer projects. This can be specifications for configuration, deployment, customization via scripting or core product requirements.
- Compose high-quality technical documentation for proposal and specification documents, provide presentations to support the sales process.
- Support deployment team by providing guidance and clarification of requirements, to ensure accurate deployment.
- Create prototype scripts to show functional intent. This is intended to assist with the development of scripts, configuration, integration, etc. that will run on our automation [robotics and process] with various software platforms.
- Describe how solutions will work through demonstration to customers and internal colleagues.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry application trends, including methodologies, LIMS/Scientific Software Space, Process and Integration Tooling, and software tools.

- Quick learner, high initiative to master our existing software suite. The primary focus of this role will be CellarioScheduler (RESTful API, C# / Python scripting) and its application to our main product line of robotic systems. The successful candidate will also receive training to support sales of our lab orchestration SaaS product CellarioOS.
- Enthusiasm for a variety of technical and collaborative responsibilities, coupled with a sense of ownership/responsibility. Enjoy being a “go-to” resource for knowledge and problem-solving.
- Ability to write high-quality specification documents.
- Technical education and experience (majority required)
- Technical Background – minimum BS degree in Scientific/Engineering or Computer Science discipline.
- Experience with custom scripting of lab automation workflows or integration, or experience with larger custom software or LIMS integration projects in a lab setting is a must.
- Five or more years’ industry experience, with preference to Biotechnology-specific [Software and Science] experience
- Experience with Software Integration via a variety of mechanisms a must, for example APIs, Database, etc.
- Experience in automated laboratory systems/workflows and software packages in a high throughput screening, compound management, drug discovery, or research automation setting is nice to have.
Additional Requirements:
- The candidate will be comfortable with travel consisting of up to 20% of the year. Typical visits are 1 to 2 days in duration, but longer visits are occasionally needed.
