Job Summary:
Responsible for the success of the total teaching/learning process within the assigned nursing classroom, laboratory, or other learning environment. Responsible for scheduling, supervising, teaching, and evaluating students in the classroom and clinical setting.
Minimum Required Education:
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution for LVN instruction
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution for ADN instruction
- Must hold a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas
Minimum Required Experience:
- Three years experience as a licensed nurse
- Preferred: Teaching experience in a higher educational nursing program

Essential Job Functions:
- Performs and carries out instruction, including careful planning of the course, preparation of lessons, meeting all scheduled classes, clearly informing students of course requirements, and fairly and impartially grading all students in accordance with the standards established by the institution.
- Schedules, supervise, teaches, and evaluates students in the clinical setting in a clear, objective manner.
- Sets a high standard in academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, and professional ethics.
- Conducts class discussions of subject matter within the scope of the course, the instructor's field of expertise, and professional competence.
- Maintains familiarity with recent publications and journals and participates in local or national professional societies and meetings where appropriate.
- Contributes to the development and review of curriculum.
- Adheres to the course syllabi and textbooks adopted for each course.
- Oversees classroom/instructional material needs for clinical and/ or lab.
- Maintains files of all course outlines and learning packets, as is appropriate.
- Participates as a faculty representative at meetings such as convocations, commencement exercises, and honors day assemblies.
- Teaches classes as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences and/or the Vice President of Instruction.
- Conducts clinical rotations in a professional manner.
- Encourages students to utilize critical thinking skills while performing patient care in the clinical setting.
- Establishes and maintains office hours.
- Schedules and assists with skills practice and demonstrations by students in the clinical lab, as needed.
- Maintains work area, shops, labs, and/or equipment in safe and sound condition.
- Works individually and collaboratively with others to recruit new students and works to retain current students.
- Submits all paperwork in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Makes conscientious use of the funds of the institution such as those allocated to budgets of academic departments or special projects.
